Breanna as DJ Buttons

DJ Bio

Breanna likes her music the way she likes her mashed potatoes: lumpy and with just enough gravy. That is, if lumpy is a metaphor for chunky rhythm and gravy means it's got plenty of soul. Of course, small combo red potatoes are a nice way to spice up a dance meal, and you know a baked big band potato will always be a delicious staple. Can you go wrong with potatoes? Breanna doesn't think so, and she feels the same way about good music. Her one goal as a DJ is to fill dancers (and the dance floor) up with great energy--and she's been all over the US to leave many an audience with their hunger sated.

"I first heard Breanna DJ at Southern Belle Swing Bash 2008. She had the unfortunate opening set at late night where hordes of ravenous dancers stopped to line up at the outside food table before even entering the dance. I remember standing in line for about 10 minutes and hearing a good song from inside; then another, and another. Finally, I joined the growing number of people putting down their empty plates to go inside and dance because the music was too good to miss.
This told me two things about Breanna as a DJ: Obviously, she played good music; but more importantly, she wasn't panicked by inheriting an empty room and had the confidence and skill to lure people into it even when they were focused on doing something else. That's what makes a good swing DJ as opposed to someone who just owns a good collection of music."

"Breanna Perry is taking the DJ world by storm and rising to the top faster than I can follow. Breanna is a quick study at whatever she does because she is brilliant and artistic. Her attention to detail and ability to work many different textures of music into her sets while continuing to keep the dance floor hopping is rare indeed. I enjoy her tastes and she continues to stretch me at the same time. I think most others who have heard her spin would agree." -Reuel Reis, organizer and teacher in Nashville, TN

"Breanna's enthusiasm and love of music are infectious.  It's impossible to be around her when she is dancing or DJing and not have a great time." -Heather Adams, dancer and DJ in Austin, TX

"Breanna has a natural understanding of what Lindy Hoppers want.  Her ability to read the mood of a crowd stems from her experience and not just out of pure luck.  What you end up with is a unique mix of music from jump blues, big band, jazz, R&B, and even soul if the mood and crowd calls for it." -Huy Huynh, organizer and teacher in Atlanta, GA
